Mark Haddon - el autor - trata de escribir como Christopher Boone - un muchacho de 15 años que padece un tipo de autismo - y de un modo misterioso y fascinante logra que el lector (yo, en este caso) olvide que está leyendo la novela de Mark Haddon y disfrute el privilegio de asistir al nacimiento de un nuevo talento: el joven Christopher Boone y su novela de misterio.

'The curious incident of the dog in the night time' es una rara maravilla. Es divertida, conmovedora, magníficamente escrita; supura inteligencia, buen gusto, honestidad, ternura y talento. Lo mismo que Christopher, que conoce la etimología de su nombre,

Mother used to say that it meant Christopher was a nice name because it was a story about being kind and helpful, but I do not want my name to mean a story about being kind and helpful. I want my name to mean me.

que se sabe todos los números primos hasta el 7.507 (de hecho, numera los capítulos del libro con números primos: 2, 3, 5, 7, 11,13, 17...), que presiente si el día será bueno o no, según el número de coches rojos que vea en fila...

Christopher Boone, que hoy es mi escritor favorito. Porque sabe entender las mentiras y qué hacer con ellas:

A lie is when you say something happened which didn't happen. But there is only ever one thing which happened at a particular time and a particular place. And there are an infinite number of things which didn't happen at that time and that place. And if I think about something which didn't happen I start thinking about all the other things which didn't happen.

'The curious incident of the dog in the night time' será publicada en breve en español por la editorial Salamandra (la misma que ha editado Harry Potter) y - según he podido saber - el traductor podría ser Sergi Pámies.
Aunque recomiendo encarecidamente leerla en su idioma original, no sólo por razones obvias, sino por una añadida: las frases que Christopher no entiende son las mismas que yo - pobre lector no bilingüe - no alcanzo a comprender. Y eso nos une y me conmueve.

'The curious incident of the dog in the night time' fue galardonada con el Premio Whitbread al Libro del Año.

Y a mí me tiene fascinado.
